Craft Work
Joelle's craft work includes various blank books, albums and boxes. Designs are based on historical models, using traditional techniques in a modern way, and are bound with archival materials.
The books and boxes are produced in editions of 20 - 200. Large sheets of paper, book board, and book cloth are cut down using manually operated cutters. The objects are then assembled using traditional hand tools.
Japanese Bound Blank Book
Traditional Japanese book binding using western tools and materials. A soft cover binding, with a tight gutter.
Dimensions: 80 pages, 7 ¾” tall x 7 ½ wide x ¼” thick.

Uses: A popular book with young sketch artists and writers.

Open Sewn Blank Book
My Open Sewn on concertina design with a French stitch. The open sewing on the spine allows the book to lie wide open.

Case Bound Blank Book
The Five Section Flat-Back is a modern version of the 18th c. case binding. It has a springy spine and a moderately tight gutter.
Dimensions: 90 pages, 8 1/4" tall x 4 1/4" wide x 1/2" thick.
